Our School
Mindful Pilates is a unique Pilates school based on the Body Control Pilates Method as well as mindfulness practice at a cozy studio in Sheung Wan, Central Hong Kong.
Our key instructor, Karen, has over 10 years' experience in the practice and our team has dedicated their lives to teaching the art of mindfulness in movement.
Our school’s Pilates program is derived from the core principles of the Pilates Method of exercise founded by Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) and the teaching guidelines set forth by Body Control Pilates. However, our teaching approach is quite different from those of other schools. At the core of our Pilates classes is the practice of mindful movements and functional movements. We believe by highlighting Pilates as a somatic practice, our unique Pilates program is more than just an outstanding body-strengthening tool; it also helps balance the body and mind by cultivating mindfulness and deep relaxation, leading to a pain-free, stress-free life.
For us, Pilates is a way of life! We recommend it to everyone regardless of age, gender and physical ability, because we know it can improve people’s quality of life in many ways. As Joseph Pilates said, “The mind, when housed within a healthful body, possesses a glorious sense of power.”
Here at Mindful Pilates, we’re wholeheartedly committed to spreading the genuine essence of Pilates, as passed down by Joseph Pilates, both internally and externally.
Our Values
We believe that the true essence of fitness is to promote personal growth, inner balance and healing. We strive for excellence and set high standards while treating each student as a unique individual with their own special needs and style of learning. Our philosophy and approach to teaching is based on the strong belief that all students, regardless of their strengths and weaknesses, are like family. Whether the student is athletically elite or has less motor skills, every person is welcome as we all add something distinctive and valuable to the learning experience.
The family atmosphere of Mindful Pilates is part of our core, where all participants will be given the chance to be individually guided and practice Pilates in a progressive and safe manner. Students will understand and experience the underlining connection of their mind and body, as well as learning the Pilates exercises techniques in a supportive and relaxing environment. Our approach encourages observation of oneself kinesthetically and psychologically, not only during each session, but also extending it to everyday life. “Pilates for a balanced mind, balanced body and balanced life” is our motto!
We strive to develop inner peace and stillness for the highest potential of each individual to emerge through the vehicle of Pilates exercises. Our programs consist within a non-judgement atmosphere where students are invited to accept themselves and their movement capabilities with an open mind.
Ultimately, we believe that our job is to assist our students on their journey towards self-awareness and positive character development.
We intend the following concepts to be a point of growth in each of our students:
• Mental calm, clarity and focus
• Physical relaxation, and increase in body control
• Self-respect, self-discipline and self-confidence
• Greater understanding and improvement in Posture and Balance
• Positive attitudes and enduring perseverance
• Inner health and physical fitness
• Greater inner awareness and management of their emotions and thoughts
• Overall improvement in physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing, leading to a happier life!
